Before you can sign up for your Instagram business page, you will need to log into your Facebook account. If you do not have a Facebook you will not be able to complete the steps below or take advantage of the many possibilities your Instagram account can offer. If you already have a Facebook business page, let’s jump right into setting up your account.

Step 1. Download the App

Posting content on Instagram can only be done usingthe mobile app. You can find the Instagram app in yourapp store and download.

Step 2: Create an account using an email address

Using a personal email will create an account based on your personal Facebook page. Since this is for your business, you should use a business email address.

Pro Tip: If you use your work email address, contacts may be able to find you more easily using the “Find Friends” feature.

Step 3: Profile basics & choosing username

Next, you are going to create a username and password. Your username should bethe company’s name, or as close as you can get to it.

Note: Instagram will automatically generate a username for you based on the name you input, but as you go through the prompts your username can be easily changed.

Step 4: Find Facebook friends & contacts

You will be asked to find people to follow via Facebook and from within your contacts. It is a best practice to have your account completed and post a photo or two before you begin to follow people. You have the opportunity to find Facebook friends whenever you want from your page settings, so if you are not ready to post anything just yet, you can go back and add people when you are ready.

Step 5: Picking the right profile photo

Your profile photo should be your logo or something that is recognizable to your brand if you do not have a logo.

As a best practice reminder – this is not a personal page, it is your business page. Avoid posting selfies, and instead, use professional headshots and professional lifestyle photos.

Next, click Add a Photo. You will be given a few photo import options, it is best to upload a photo on its own. Importing from Facebook or Twitter will pull in your personal information.

Step 6: Complete your profile

In the bottom right corner, tap on the Profile button and then click Edit Your Profile. You will complete your profile information here.

Fill out your bio and contact information fields. Keep in mind this is the only section on the platform that can use a clickable link – we suggest you use your website URL, directing your followers right to your website.

Step 7: Link your business Facebook page

Instagram will ask you to link your business Facebook page or create one in order to use the Instagram for business tools which is located in the Edit Profile menu.

Step 8: Start Posting!

As we mentioned above, it is a best practice to post a few photos to your account before adding people as your friends. This is the fun part! Share content that represents your brand and incentives people to engage with your page!
